Built in 1884 by architect Fred Lockwood, 234 Clinton Street is an enormous, 25'-wide late-Italianate-style townhouse on a prime Cobble Hill block. In 2025, an extensive renovation was completed by the architecture firm MADE, beautifully restoring the home's classical nuances while updating the home with brand new, design-driven finishes. The liberal use of color, particularly through tiling, creates specificity in each of the home's spaces, from the foyer to the bathrooms. The result is a timeless homage to the home's captivating history while simultaneously forging a refined new heritage.

At 25-feet-wide and with five levels of voluminous living, the home is sprawling and grand in stature. Enter the parlor, where one is greeted by 12' ceilings, checkered reclaimed marble floors in the foyer, and decorative mouldings throughout. In the mornings, the original and newly restored stained glass in the eastern windows enchants the great room, softly anointing the herringbone floors with color. Newly installed landmark-approved Lepage double-hung windows preserve quiet and help maintain an ideal climate. Striking details abound: the original mantel around the wood-burning fireplace; the decorative parapets above each window and door frame; the Cipollino marble radiator covers; the wooden shutters; the contemporary light fixtures.

Pocket doors open seamlessly from the living room into the dining room. The floors are lined with a parsley colored tile from Ait Manos, as is the kitchen and the kitchen island. Warming features, like the second wood-burning fireplace, patterned ceilings and additional mouldings, complement this floor accent, aided by two oversized windows facing west over the back garden.

The dining room opens to the kitchen, where handmade and carefully installed Zuber wallpaper builds upon this vibrant green theme. Custom walnut cabinetry, plus open walnut shelving, adds a natural element. Integrated into the walnut finishes, find a full suite of new Gaggenau appliances, including an electric convection oven and wine refrigerator.

Outside the kitchen and dining rooms is a terrace overlooking the back garden. At 40'-feet deep, the landscaped garden is a quiet and private, and serves as an extension of both the parlor and garden levels. A beautiful Japanese Maple will mark the changing of seasons.

From the parlor, ascend the mint green stairs to the third floor, occupied primarily by the enormous primary bedroom suite. Here, luxury and comfort prevail; there is a wood-burning fireplace, a built-out dressing room with an additional fireplace, two full bathrooms and an additional walk-in closet. The laundry room and a home office or proper nursery are also located on this floor. The first of two bathrooms in the primary suite features blue and green checkered tile from Ait Manos, a double vanity finished in green onyx, hand-painted walls, a freestanding porcelain tub, a stall shower and a west-facing window. The second bathroom features dark blue tile from Ait Manos and a stall shower. All bathroom fixtures on this floor are from P.E. Guerin.

The fourth floor offers three additional bedrooms, plus a central flexible space that can be used as a library, den, or playroom. There are spacious closets in the larger two bedrooms; each also has a fireplace. The flexible middle room has walls of built-in shelving, plus a skylight. The full bathroom on this floor has blue checkered tile from Ait Manos, a freestanding clawfoot tub, a stall shower, and a west-facing window.
